Dame Esther Rantzen was "an inspirational individual", the director of her Childline helpline says.

Greater Manchester mayor Bev Craig said the awards' move north for the first time was a "massive moment".

Maya Jama, Michael Sheen and Bella Ramsey are among this year's celebrities taking part in the show.

Rantzen, who fronted the BBC's That's Life for two decades, went on to found Childline, and in recent years had been a campaigner for assisted dying.
